EARLY CHRISTMAS TREAT

It was almost an early Christmas treat for the boxers from Spaniorum Farm when they boxed on another highly successful show, at Bristol’s Marriott Hotel on December 2nd 2007, promoted by stable-mate Jane Couch.

A full house of raucous, but well behaved, supporters, enjoyed two home victories, and a 6 x 2 minute draw between experienced light-welter Chris Long and stylish good boxer Russell Pearce from Wales. Long’s trainer/manager Tex Woodward said, “It was a good contest with the skills of Pearce against the strength and work-rate of Chris. I thought Chris won the fight!”

Robert Boardman having his first contest after training at the ‘Farm’, won an untidy light-heavy contest on points against another Welshman, Adam Wilcox.

Topping an entertaining evening’s boxing, Danny Butler closed the bill with a clear points win over Birmingham’s rugged light-middleweight Terry Adams in a British Masters title match. As, has been the case in Danny’s previous fights, it looked like a boy versus man battle, with the twenty year old Butler using his skills and movement to frustrate the determined Adams. Partaking in his first ten round contest, Danny was a little cautious at first, working and moving behind a sharp left jab, picking up the points but at the same time wary of the rugged ‘Brummies’ harder punches. At the halfway stage there was little difference in the scores. Butler began to up his work-rate introducing more combination punches to drop Adams in the eighth round. The fight looked over, but the Brummie boxer was saved by the bell. Surprisingly, Adams came out full of fight for the ninth round but Butler was even livelier and it was a credit to Terry Adams that he stayed the distance only to lose 99 - 92.

As a total surprise to Danny his father the widely known Ronnie Butler, jumped into the ring at the end of the fight and gave his victorious son the reward of a ticket to the Ricky Hatton v Floyd Mayweather World Title fight.

JASMINE

Danny Butler, Spaniorum Farm’s talented teenage boxer, puts his unbeaten record of eight fights, eight wins, on the line when he boxes his first ten round contest for the vacant British Masters light-middle weight title against a, so far, un-named opponent, on a Jane Couch promotion at the Marriott Hotel, Bristol U.K. on Sunday December 2nd.

Unable to plan sparring for a specific opponent, manager/coach Tex Woodward has enlisted an assortment of sparring partners varying from heavyweight to ten year old ‘paper weight’ Jasmine Stephens-Parr (in picture with Danny).

Woodward says, tongue in cheek, “ I know this type of sparring is a bit unusual but Jasmine is a much smaller target than the heavy-weights and she is also more elusive.

Jasmine’s mother Julia says, “Jasmine loves going to the gym. It is a place where you feel immediately at ease and everyone is friendly and welcoming. Through Tex’s guidance and tuition she is improving vastly and her confidence is growing daily."
