NewsDANNY BUTLER V MATT SCRIVENDanny Butler showed no signs of a recent chest infection as he classically out-pointed tough ex-army fighter Matt Scriven on the latest Hatton’s Promotion at The Marriott Hotel Bristol. On an exciting bill, organised by the Hatton’s co-ordinator Jane Couch, Butler’s effective left hand lead and fast combination punching was just too much for Midlander Matt, who hadn’t come to lose but after being floored twice was out-pointed 40-34. A very sporting Scriven was the first to congratulate Danny before Ricky Hatton came into the ring to praise Danny, and also the spectators support. The video of the contest can be seen on Hatton Promotions website Starting confidently, Pete the “Choir Boy” Leworthy looked set for another points win against Pavels Senkova, but in a moment of carelessness he dropped his left hand, lifted his chin, and was floored by a perfectly timed right hand from his Latvian opponent. Pete beat the count from referee Grant Wallis, but walked away instead of raising his hands to show he could continue. This sign of inexperience gave Wallis no option but to stop the contest. MARTIN ROBINS V CHRIS BROPHY Spaniorum’s third boxer on the bill, Martin Robins, appeared to outpoint Swansea’s Chris Brophy in each of the first five rounds, despite the referee Grant Wallis making him the eventual winner by just one point. It was a case of Martin’s better skills against the vastly more experienced Brophy’s harder punching. In the rest period between the fifth and sixth round, manager and coach Tex Woodward told Robins, “You are well ahead on points and Chris will try to knock you out to win, be careful”. He was correct, the fit and strong Welshman wasn’t going to give up easily. Brophy won the round but couldn’t floor Robins. The referees score of 58-57 to Martin Robins seemed a little kind to Chris Brophy. News Archive
