SYD LAWRENCE

As Syd Lawrence nears his Celebrity boxing match in June his work-rate and speed of hands would be the envy of many a professional boxer. Sparring with some heavyweight amateurs at Spaniorum Farm Gym, Syd’s performance would suggest that it will take a very good opponent to beat him. Danny Butler, the ‘Farm’s’ unbeaten teenage professional light-middleweight, and Jane Couch both spar with Syd helping transmit their boxing skills, but not without constant words of warning from coach Tex Woodward not to drop their hands or stop moving.

As a World class cricket fast bowler, the word ‘competitive’ has long been with Syd and Celebrity boxing will undoubtedly enhance this trait.

JANE COUCH

Eight months after her last fight, a points loss to Holly Holm in Albuquerque, Jane Couch has been booked to box in two high class bouts. The first a return match with Jamie Clampitt in June at Rhode island, the second a long desired contest with Christie Martin in Monaco in September 22nd.

Both offers came ‘out of the blue’ and rekindled the spark of desire in Jane to prove that she is still one of the top female women boxers in the World.

Coming at a time when her training sessions were intermittent, while she encouraged the less experienced boxers in the gym, Jane and long-time manager Tex Woodward will select a programme that will help her regain the fitness that was too much for Jamie in their first meeting. Says.Tex “ While we have had comparatively short notice for this return match with Clampitt, and Jane has some considerable weight to lose, I don’t foresee a win for Jamie unless she has improved considerably”.

Last words from Jane, “I know that it will be a hard fight, I just hope the judges are as fair as they were at Foxwoods”.

DANNY BUTLER

The soulful tune of “Danny Boy” will be heard again as Danny Butler makes his entrance to the ring at The Holiday Inn, Birmingham, on June 1st, against Surinder Sekhon from Barnsley. Unbeaten in six contests on his home territory, nineteen year old Butler will be hoping to serve up another victory against the more experienced Sekhon in Danny’s first ‘away’ match.

Promoter Ken Purchase has hinted that if Danny puts on a good performance he will use him again on future shows.
