NewsTONY SARULLO. B.B.B. of C. LICENCED “WHIP”
The old saying, “Good things come in small packages”, couldn’t be more appropriate than describing Spaniorum Farm Gym’s latest asset to the gym’s personalities. 32 years of age, 5ft 1in, and somewhere over 8 stone, Tony Sarullo looks like what he set put to be in life, a jockey. Started riding at seven years of age, he later progressed to a jockey course at The British School of Riding, Newmarket. However, as circumstances dictated that a career as a barber would take priority over horse racing, he now rides his own horse “Archie” for pleasure rather than competition. Tony admits it’s hard to define what switched his enthusiasm from horse racing to boxing, but he spent a lot of time and money sponsoring an unsuccessful professional boxer. Catching the bug of the professional boxing world, Tony applied to the Western Area B.B.B. of C. for a trainers licence, which, due to his obvious lack of experience, wasn’t granted. However, Council Member Tex Woodward, a strong believer in the fact that more young people should be encouraged to take part in professional boxing in and out of the ring, was impressed by Tony Sarullo’s bursting enthusiasm for boxing, and offered to act as his mentor while Sarullo gained experience in the pro’ boxing world.. With this backing, Tony was granted a “Whip” licence, a position he has carried out admirably on Jane Couch promotions, despite undeserved criticism from some senior members of the Western Area Council. Tex Woodward, strongly denies the fact that as Tony is a barber by profession, and that he had offered Tex free haircuts, had anything to do with his support. Final word from Tex “ Tony Sarullo has been a welcome asset to the gym, with good humour, sparring with Jane Couch and doing pad work with me. Such enthusiasm should be rewarded, and I hope he progresses even more in pro-boxing !” Previous Articles
