JANE COUCH PROMOTION - MARRIOTT HOTEL BRISTOL, MAY 2nd

Whereas Danny Butler stole the limelight on Jane Couch's latest promotion at The Marriott Hotel, Bristol, on May 2nd, great credit must be given to the under-card fighters who were well matched and competitive. Both Lance Varello and Kristian Laight lost on points, as they so often do, but both gave their opponents Cato and Long, a serious workout. They were a tribute to working professionals.

Brock Cato - Wales, 10st 6lbs won on points v Lance Varello, Bristol 10st 9lbs

Chris Long - Calne, 10st 6lbs won on points v Kristian Laight, Nottingham 10st 2lb

The third and last fight of the evening saw Danny Butler, Bristol's youngest and latest prospect, enter the ring at 11st 9lbs, a weight that enhanced his speed and fitness.

Matched against tall and awkward Jamie Ambler, Wales, 12st 1lb Butler stole the first round with his better skills and combinations, overcoming the long flailing arms and holding tactics of Ambler, but no-one, least of all Jamie Ambler, could have foreseen the long looping right hand punch that caught the Welshman flush on the chin and floored him for a worrying length of time in the second round.

After attention from the ringside Doctor, Jamie regained an upright position and was able to walk to the opposite corner to congratulate Danny Butler.
