DANNY BUTLER v CARL DRAKE (Plymouth)

Danny Butler continued his winning ways with a close points win over Carl Drake on Jane Couch’s latest promotion at The Marriott Hotel, Bristol, on Saturday September 15th.

It was a classic contest, young stylish boxer Butler against mature, hard-man fighter Drake, both displaying well defined stomach muscles.

Taking part in his first 6 x 3 minute contest, Danny was made to work and move until the final bell, the vociferous Butler supporters urging their favourite on to keep moving and avoid Drake’s dangerous punches.

The final bell must have been a relief to both boxers and their corner men. Cark Drake relieved of being hit by sharp combination punches from Butler and Danny from having to endure the less frequent but harder punches from Carl.

Tex Woodward, working in Danny Butlers corner said, “When the bell went and the fight was over I thought it was going to be a close decision and was relieved when referee, Grant Wallis, held up Danny’s hand, not that I had doubts in my mind that Danny was a winner, but I know that on occasions referees see things differently. It was a learning curve fight for Danny and I want him back in the gym as soon as possible, fit and ready to travel and fight at short notice”.
