MARTIN ROBINS

Martin Robins continued his successful transfer from the amateur ranks with a close points victory over seasoned journeyman Chris Brophy.

In a tough 6 x 2 round contest, that may well have been the most competitive of the evening on the Hattons latest promotion at the Altrincham Leisure Centre, Martin edged the one point victory with his fast but light combination punching over the much harder but less frequent punches from Chris, who competes far better than his record suggests.

DANNY BUTLER

Danny Butler, now with a record of 17 wins against one loss and the winner of two British Masters championship titles to his credit, has moved up to No. 11 in the ratings.

Danny, a Spaniorum Farm boxer since starting boxing as a junior amateur, was initially more keen on wrestling than boxing. Despite being a successful wrestler Danny decided to don boxing gloves to change his fighting skills, so far with a high degree of success.

An opportunity to gain the next step up the ladder will be an English Middleweight Championship bout with Damen McDermott, the present holder of the title, at the Manchester Velodrome on Friday 25th September.

Prior to the English Championship fight, Butler has a rematch with wily veteran Paul Samuels at the Newport Centre on Friday 24th July, in defence of his British Masters title.

Having beaten Paul Samuels, with a very close decision, in the PrizeFighter competition, Danny knows he is in for a hard night’s work but, as always, will have trained hard for the contest.

PETER LEWORTHY

Won 4. Lost 1.

Peter Leworthy lost for the first time as a professional boxer against Latvian Pavels Senkous on the Hatton Promotion show, organised by Jane Couch M.B.E, at the Marriott Hotel, Bristol on June 13th.

The 13th proved to be an unlucky date for Leworthy, who started confidently but dropped his hands after just a minutes boxing and paid the price for his mistake by taking a right swing on the chin that floored him.

Pete, having not been knocked down before, made the mistake of getting up before he had recovered and walking towards a neutral corner. Possibly still a little unsteady, referee Grant Wallis declared the fight over, a decision not totally agreed with by the home crowd supporters.
