The Big Shed

The ‘big shed’ as it became known was quickly filled with the remnants of house clearances. tools and a mass of items which may, or may not, have been useful in the future.

Just inside the farm gate was another shed, this one much smaller, an army style hut 60ft by 17ft that had seen service in the war to house German prisoners.

It’s latest use, in three parts, had been as a ‘mens room’, storing apple sacks, and to house sheep.

Later as a henhouse and wood store. Minus a wall on one side, apart from the section for hens, with large holes in the rotting floor, the chance that this derelict building would become a gymnasium was an even bigger pipe dream, but this time there was smoke.

Looking at the building one day, Tex thought, “I had huts like that on two R.A.F.stations and I turned both of them into good boxing gyms, but then they had four walls!”
